This park features a central gathering space with expansive views of the open sky, symbolizing freedom, change, and diverse perspectives. The name Free Skies is inspired by a 1906 obituary for Albert Bayless, an African American pioneer who, despite the challenges of his time, found freedom and dignity in Oregon. It honors the resilience and perseverance of African Americans throughout history.
